Ladies with more than one baby/child...need advice about toddler while i deliver baby #2?

I am being induced monday night/tuesday morning for medical reasons. I have a 3 year old, so my initial answer was to have family watch him while we are in the hospital. Something has now come up and that now seems impossible. My home is over an hour from the hospital and my husband wants to be there for me and his first little girl. (my son is not biologically his) My question for you ladies that have given birth while still being a mother to another child, how did you handle it? Did the child stay at the hospital, is it allowed, how did the older child handle it all, etc?...Any advice, experience or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I thought i had this all planned and ready but now i've been thrown this curve ball. Thank you all so much!
