If god is so loving, why did he create hell?

excellent question. This question helped me on my way to atheism. If we are all sinners and deserve hell, it is only because God created us that way. Why would he bother to create me if in his infinite knowledge he knew he was sending me to hell when I died? Certainly, we have the ability to be good, since there is a heaven apparently, but if he is omniscient he would know from the moment he created us where we would end up. and then he still chooses to create souls he plans to torment. There can be no free will if God knows everything.
