If I wanted to die my hair dark brown like cameron diaz or nicole richies, what would be the base colors?

I recently had my hair dyed dark brown like thiers, but my hairdresser only used a demi permanent and it washed out in a couple of weeks to a reddish color. I want to just do it myself but i dont know if it was a violet-red base or a blue-red, or even something different?
