MTG Boomerang Rulings?

I'm really just searching for the ruling on any return permanents cards. I played a land last game i played and my opponent boomeranged it while i was about to tap it for mana. I was under the impression that my tap ability would resolve before his boomerang, but i didn't feel like getting into an argument about it. Can anyone tell me the official ruling on which effect would resolve first?
